Rattlesnake specis are by far my most favourite venomous snakes and here at Tyron's Corns & Colubrids we have a widespread collection consisting of 10 species of Crotalus and 3 species of Sistrurus. Without going into too much detail, I will explain my experience about the ins and outs of keeping and handling venoous snake.
I do not sell any venomous snakes to persons under the age of 18.
It is always recommended to attend at least one venomous snake handling course before obtaining your first venomous snake.
Keeping venomous snakes is a huge responsibility that should only be taken up by those prepared to do so. Venomous snakes require an enormous amount of respect, not that all other snakes don't. It requires confidence and overcomeing fear. If you are not confident in your own ability to care for a venomous snake, it is best to wait until you are ready to do so.
Ways to help you overcome fear and gain confidence are to do as much research as possible about venomouse snakes in general and the specific species you would like to work with. Learn to understand from other people's experienes by speaking to local breeders and finding a mentor to learn from. Offer tohelp out by cleaning cages for example and in turn they could show you the ropes when it comes to reading snake body language and handling them appropriately.
